I was invited to visit ITKP102 Programming 1 (6 ECTS) course to tell what programming is like when you are paid for it and answer questions. It was nice to get invited so I accepted the invitation quickly.
I was in a nice position here since I still remembered what it was like when starting the studies in University of Jyväskylä in 2006 but there was over ten years of stuff to draw from after that.
As one example I chose to demonstrate how changing a function to hide errors prompts a bug hunt after underlying assumptions don’t hold anymore. For many participants, this course was their first touch to programming. It takes some work to come up with interesting examples that are within reach.
I was amazed by the number of great questions I got asked. I got a good vibe of the course.
